The Calm Before the Storm

I decided to get out and fish the Truckee today before the coming Winter Snow Storm. It was a beautiful day with sunny skies and the water was flowing @ 270 CFS. The big browns are out in force in the deep runs. At around 1:30 PM I hooked a really nice brown on a cream colored stone pattern. I did not know it a the time but he really swallowed the bug deep. It turned out to be a 18 inch beautiful fish and I released him without harm. No fish photos today, but here are a couple of nice shots of the river.

Teton Valley Idaho Photos

Teton Valley Idaho

Just got back from a really wonderfully awesome trip to Idaho with my friend Larry Roffelsen. We specifically took this trip to participate in the Casting 4 a Cure event in Victor Idaho. This is a great organization of fly-fishing individuals getting together to raise money to find a cure for Rett Syndrome. Check out their website:

Before the event Larry and I fished the Henry's Fork in Ashton, ID and traveled to Montana to fish the Madison. The C4C took place on The South Fork of the Snake. We landed a few fish, meet some great people, fished during a hail storm and saw breathtaking scenery. I can't wait to go back!

Truckee Downtown Reno

Fished the Truckee in Downtown Reno this morning for the first time this year. The flows are perfect, the fish are hungry and the catching was good today for my buddy Gary. Gary landed a nice brown on a bitch creek and several nice bows on pt's. This is prime time so get out and fish the Truckee now!

Truckee River June 29th

Fished the Truckee in California on June 29th with my friend Jay. Water was high but very fishable. Just tough to wade. Jay hooked a very large fish but we could not land it! Man it was huge! I managed to get a small rainbow nymphing with a golden stone. Beautiful Weather! Beautiful Scenery! Beautiful Water! The fishing should be great over the next few weeks. Happy hunting!

Here is a shot of an East Walker Brown from a few weeks ago.

Fishing for Steel in NE Oregon

Just spent 5 days in NE Oregon searching for steelhead in the Grande Ronde, Imnaha and Wallowa Rivers. One of my fishing buddies, Larry Roffelsen joined me on my second trip to this beautiful area. Our home base was Joseph, at the base of the Wallowa mountains. As with any trip searching for steelhead the weather can be challenging. We had sub freezing temps, snow and 1 day above 55 degrees. But we managed to have a very successful trip landing lot's of beauties. I highly recommend you take a trip to this area you won't regret it! Make sure you give one of my favorite guides Mac Huff a call. A link to his website is at the bottom of this page.

Nice Brown on the Truckee!

Landed my first brown trout of good size today on the Truckee. The fly du jour today, a march brown nymph. It took about 6 or 7 drifts and he was on. Hopefully there are more of his friends close by!

Valentines Day on The Truckee

Fun day on the Truckee with my friends Larry and Sue. Beautiful day outside temperature topped out at 58 degrees. Water temperature of 46 degrees. Not bad for February. Larry was the big winner today hooking and landing many fish. Several of good size. Nice hatches started @ around 12:30 PM consisting of BWO's size 14's. A few fish feeding on surface, but most action sub-surface.
Saw my first NV game Warden after 4 years of living in Reno! Very nice guy! I think I will try again on Tuesday.

Have a great day!
